National Benthic Inventory (NBI)
A quantitative database of the distribution and abundance of taxa sampled in various NOAA studies at particular locations. This is accompanied by preserved specimens housed in the newly established natural history collection of benthic infauna housed in NOAA's CCEHBR lab in Charleston, SC.

An exceptional site maintained by the USDA. Find taxonomic information for virtually any organism. Classification, geographic information, references, TSN (taxonomic serial number), common name, remarks on nomenclature, and other comments are all reported.

Southeast Regional Taxonomic Center (SERTC)
A great new site launched by the SC-DNR. This facility houses a curated collection of marine and estuarine animals from the South Atlantic Bight and is maintaining a searchable library based on their holdings. Some great links, too!

Environmental Education Foundation (REEF)
REEF is an organization founded by scuba divers that have an interest in preserving the marine environment. Their site is full of information about different projects, their database, and numerous web resources.

Carolina Aquarium
Charleston's Aquarium on the wharf. Besides general info about the aquarium exhibits and such, this site has LOTS of detailed information about research, education, and community outreach programs. A nice site.

JASON project
This project is a program designed to spark students interest in the sciences: physical, chemical, and biological. Lesson plans, info on past, present, and future expeditions, along with an online store. Geared for teachers.

This is a great educational site for students and teachers alike. The goal of this project is to investigate, conduct research in, and promote the 12 US National Marine Sanctuaries. Tons of info here!!

SCAMIT's mission is to promote the study of marine invert taxonomy in the southern California area. Probably the best feature of this site is the "Taxonomic Toolbox" that contains information on every major invertebrate group.
